Brain implants for the 'mentally ill'

Hi all,

Just saw this story on Mad in America about the trialling of brain implants for depression and schizophrenia.

This seems like heavy dystopian stuff. There was one image of a woman who had stitches in her skull.

Seems bad news.

if it makes their life better, so be it.

but how many poor bastards did they need to "experiment" on, and fuck up, before they get it right??

science is cruel

but how many people had to die from poisons before we finally figured out which plants and mushrooms to eat, and which not to?
evolution glides across the bones of the dead
i guess.

Lobotomy 2.0

The dehumanization of the Mad must stop.

Radical surgeries and experimentation are not the answer.

Oh, I heard about it before, yes. I really asked myself how would I write a dystopian novel if the present is such?

Another bad news, you may know already:

Abilify with a sensor, controlling if it has been taken:

I have not red the whole article but madness has to stop being seen as just this isolated thing that happens within and individuals personal faulty neurology. It is simply far too reductionist this biomedical model.
I know I am probably preaching to the choir but it is just so scary to think that many still think this is the case and cause of what might be labelled mad.

To not see madness within a social and cultural context is just MAD.
