I took a look at the website and I'm not quite sure what its all about? what sort of workshop? just anything we want to do?

Inel and I have been playing around with a Mad Maps /wrap/ wellness plan/ "how to talk to me when I'm nuts" zine/ kinda thing.

hmmm....

Be Your Own Hero!!!
This excites me tremendously!

A madness workshop with a superhero theme!
Mad maps and field guides to inner worlds excite me!
(strangedolll excites me too!)

Since Wilmington is like almost 6 hours from Asheville and Richmond (where one of the newest icarus groups is kickin' ass) is only 4 hours and you all are by the beeeeeeeach, it sounds like it would make a fun meet up, camp out, workshop, skill share experience for a hearty handful of us.

I'll spread the word to local mad rad ones and check in with the richmond crew and email organizers directly if we can figure something out. (still day dreaming here...)

The event sounds super sweet!

This sounds really cool. If other Asheville people go I'll be happy to contribute to the workshop and the camping fun.

Hero Fest 2009

Postby beyrownhero » May 13, 2009 2:34 pm

Hi everyone! My friends and I are planning for this years Be Your Own Hero Festival taking place Sept 5-6 (labor day weekend)

We would absolutely love for any radical mental health people to come do a workshop this year, as interest to start our own radical support group has been increasing.

more about hero fest and workshop submission can be found at http://beyrownhero.com/?p=73

we are also raising money over the summer to help those from out of town get here financially. so if money is a factor, please let me know and I'll see what we can work out. We'd really love if anyone from asheville came so we can bridge our communities.

feel free to contact me beyrownhero@gmail.com

This sounds so wonderful! Wondering how last year's event went? Sorry I didn't make it. I totally appreciate the advanced notice and will pass this along to local group people. This year may be tricky for me because it is LAAFF weekend here in Asheville (an Arts2People annual big event) and I am heavily involved in that. Hmmmmmmmm? But I really really wanna join y'all!

Yes to building bridges!

Maybe I could check in with you another one of my trips out your direction ? I'm always happy to share local group support and the 3rd sunday conference calls are also good to network with other groups for support and ideas as well. I think there may be a group happening in Chapel Hill, NC. I sent them a note but haven't heard back. I'll try to find the contact.

A big heroic hurray and hurrah!
