Fall 2010 ARMHC UPDATE!

Fall 2010 ARMHC UPDATE!

Postby Inel » Oct 06, 2010 9:30 am

After nearly 5 years, we're feeling the winds of change within the Asheville Radical Mental Health Collective (ARMHC).

October is very likely our last month meeting at the YWCA. While it has been the perfect place in so many ways (location, childcare, comfort, accessibility, radical safe space) we simply can no longer afford our monthly rent.

So much is still to be decided, but over the next few months we will likely be holding a few events to get new people and fresh ideas engaged. I imagine we will use the beloved Firestorm Cafe for these events...stay tuned.

We will be actively seeking a new free space that meets our criteria of a comforting, private, non-triggering, and accessible to many different people in our community. Got ideas, send them along.

Our group is still active, but now it is in the state of evolution and transformation.

If you're around the Asheville area, want to get involved and/or share ideas and energy with our collective, please send an email to radmadasheville@theicarusproject.net or show up to one of our last Monday nights 7-9 at the Y, through October.

We'll continue to update the community of changes in location, days, times, etc.

Big mad love and gratitude to everyone who has contributed over the past 5 years and cheers to the evolution!

Tonight is our last night meeting at the YWCA on S. French Broad at 7pm.

Next up, a book discussion group for four weeks Nov/Dec at Firestorm (details soon).
Hopefully, that will get some new folks and fresh energy engaged.

January a meet up for planning while looking for new regular meeting space and getting ready for a few events. Hopefully, Ken will come to screen Crooked Beauty film w/workshop at the end of January (getting even more folks involved) and then a fun festive crafty Mad Love event in February.

During these events, discussion groups and building a new base of friends and allies, we are all committed to call and check in on one another and keep the mutual aid balls juggling while we aren't meeting regularly for support circles.

Come out tonight if you're around.

(Also wanted to send big mad love and gratitude to our friends and comrades at the Asheville Homeless Network for paying our past due rent.)
